Illinois State House District 54 issued the following announcement on July 17
State Representative Tom Morrison (R-Palatine) recently hosted a free self-defense class for women in his district. The seminar was led by Jan and John Wood of J.P. Wood Martial Arts America and included self-defense, distraction, and awareness tactics. Girls and women ages 13+ residing in his 54th District were invited to participate.
Representative Morrison has held a self-defense workshop nearly every year to help women learn defensive techniques so they can feel more confident protecting themselves if and when they need it. This year’s event was at capacity.
“The event had a great turnout and there was a full room of women eager to learn what to hit, how to release holds, ways to be aware, and what situations to avoid,” said Morrison. “After seeing the success of this workshop, I hope to hold more in the near future. I’d also like to give a huge thank you to Jan and John Wood and their staff for teaching such an engaging class.”
Due to the event’s popularity, Rep. Morrison plans to host an additional self-defense class this fall.
