City of Elgin issued the following announcement on July 15.
With extreme temperatures in the forecast, make sure you keep cool, check on neighbors and take care of pets. A list of cooling centers is available at cityofelgin.org/staycool.
Here are some other hot weather tips:
-Stay hydrated, even when you don't feel thirsty
-Avoid alcoholic & caffeinated beverages
-Avoid overexertion and strenuous outdoor activities if possible
-Take advantage of cooling centers, public pools and air-conditioned stores and malls during periods of extreme heat
-Offer pets extra water and provide shady refuge where they can escape direct sun
-Lock car doors and trunks, and keep keys out of children's reach
-Don't leave your pet in the car
-Keep pets' paws away from hot pavement
