Illinois' 19th State House District issued the following announcement on March 27.
According to poll released Tuesday, 67% of Illinoisans support the Fair Tax, which uses graduated rates to apply lower rates to lower incomes. Notably, the poll shows that support comes from all regions of the state - voters in Chicago, the Collar Counties, and Downstate all support a graduated income tax.
Rep. Rob Martwick found the results encouraging. "With the Fair Tax, 97% of Illinoisans will pay lower taxes. This poll shows that the people of Illinois know that the Fair Tax is the best way to ease the burden on the working-class and middle-class while also solving the financial problems facing our state," he stated in a Facebook post on Wednesday.
The poll, completed by the Paul Simon Public Policy Institute at SIU-Carbondale, can be read at https://paulsimoninstitute.siu.edu/_common/documents/opinion-polling/budget-tax-simon-poll-march2019.pdf
