City of Des Plaines recently issued the following announcement.
The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that as part of the reconstruction of the existing Cumberland Circle (Golf Road and Wolf Road North), in Des Plaines, will require full closures of access from Golf Road (Illinois 58) to Wolf Road North and State Street and reduction of Golf Road to one lane in each direction beginning, weather permitting, Monday, Mar. 18.
The project consists of the reconstruction of the existing traffic circle into a modern roundabout. These improvements will reduce the footprint of the existing circle, provide a larger turn radius for trucks, provide splitter islands directing vehicles into their proper lanes and improved overhead signage. In addition, the improvements will provide crosswalks on all five legs of the circle as well as improved drainage and lighting within the circle.
The work is expected to be complete by the end of November.
Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.
