City of Evanston issued the following announcement on Feb. 20.
The City of Evanston’s Public Works Agency will begin 2019 street cleaning operations on Friday, March 1. Street cleaning will run through Friday, December 13, weather permitting.
Parking signage posted at the beginning and end of each block indicates the specific days and times that parking restrictions will be in place on each street (i.e. First Thursday of the Month, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.). The 2019 street cleaning map and schedule can be found at cityofevanston.org/streetcleaning. A "City Services Update" publication will also be mailed to all Evanston households in the last week of February.
Parking is prohibited only on the sides and dates indicated on the street signs. Parking will be prohibited as indicated and residents are reminded to always check the street signs before parking their cars. Drivers parked illegally are subject to a $75 ticket.
What's New In 2019
New this year, additional fall street cleaning dates have been added for residential streets to ensure debris is cleared in the late fall months. Signage will be posted and parking restrictions will be enforced.
Also new this year, residential streets in Zone 3 in west Evanston will be swept once per month on the third Tuesday and third Wednesday of the month, instead of the third Thursday and third Friday. The posted street signage and schedule reflect these changes.
Sign Up for Convenient Text and Email Reminders
In addition to the parking signage, the City offers courtesy text message and email notifications to remind residents to move their vehicles prior to street cleaning. Residents can sign up for parking notifications for their street cleaning zone by visiting cityofevanston.org/streetcleaning, or by calling/texting 847-448-4311. Residents who've signed up for street cleaning notifications previously do not have to update their notifications unless their address or parking location has changed.
Leaf Blowing
Gasoline-powered leaf blowers are allowed March 30 to May 15 and September 30 through the first Thursday of December on weekdays, 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Saturday, Sunday and holidays, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Raking or blowing leaves into the streets is illegal, and can block sewers and cause flooding.
