Seniorwalker 760x475

City of Evanston issued the following announcement on Jan. 16.

Evanston seniors and those with disabilities are invited to learn about the City’s expanded transportation program and the many options available to them at a free resource fair on Thursday, January 31, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., at the Levy Senior Center, 300 Dodge Ave.

At the fair, attendees can get information about the Brink’s Business Expense prepaid debit card, which is issued by the City of Evanston and can be used by Evanston Benefit Card holders to cover expenses for all modes of transportation, including buses, trains, taxis and rideshare services. The program was launched in 2018 in partnership with The Brink’s Company as an alternative to the City’s subsidized taxicab coupon program. Representatives of Brink’s and various transportation providers will be on hand during the event.

The resource fair will also provide attendees with an opportunity to learn about other transportation programs and resources that may be available to them, including the RTA Reduced Fare Card, ADA Paratransit Service, and the State of Illinois’ Benefit Access Program.

Refreshments will be provided at the event. Attendees will be entered into a raffle for prizes.

Those who qualify for an Evanston Benefit Card can apply on-site at the resource fair. In addition to qualifying for City transportation programs, Evanston Benefit Card holders can access City programs and services, including Wheel Tax discounts, recreation program fee assistance, food and yard waste discounts, and the Handyman Program.

To qualify for an Evanston Benefit Card, applicants must reside in Evanston (zip codes 60202 or 60201), be over the age of 65 or under the age of 65 with a disability, and have an annual income of $30,000 or less for a household of one. Applicants must provide proof of Evanston residency, age or disability, and income. The previous year’s tax forms may be used as documentation.
