Statewide test results: 34 percent of Central failed English language arts

Scores6

About 66 percent of Central School students passed annual English language arts assessments in 2018 and 34 percent of students failed, according to a North Cook News analysis of the latest Illinois schools report card.

The Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers, or PARCC, is administered to third- through eighth-graders in Illinois, testing them in reading and math based on Common Core standards.

According to Central School English language scores, about 55 percent met expectations and 11 percent exceeded them. Students whose results are in either category are considered to be most ready to move on to the next level and are most prepared for college or work.

Another 23 percent approached expectations, while 9 percent partially met expectations and 3 percent did not meet them. Students who scored in these categories are not ready for the next level of schooling, according to the test.

Test results at Central School, which enrolled 546 students in 2018, surpassed state averages.

Statewide, 37 percent of students passed the test and 63 percent failed.

Of students statewide who passed, only six percent 'exceeded' expectations.
