City of Elgin issued the following announcement on Nov. 30.

Staff has evaluated current leaf collection volumes coupled with current and forecasted weather conditions and has decided to end the 2018 on-street leaf collection program for the season.

The final scheduled week for on street leaf collection was this week, ending November 29. On-street leaf collection was cancelled with the onset of the storm on November 25 and was to be reevaluated after cleanup was completed.

As of November 29, we have collected 94% of total leaf volume that was collected in 2017.

(In 2017 total collection volume was 14,546 cubic yards compared to the 13,598 cubic yards collected to date in 2018).

***Waste Management, however, will continue to collect bagged yard waste through Friday, December 7th at no cost.*** 

Residents will have the opportunity to bag leaves if desired and they will be collected on their regular garbage collection day the week of December 7.

Waste Management also provides residents free yard waste collection in April, at which time we will take a look to see if a need for city intervention by way of a final leaf collection week.

Tree Branches

It's not uncommon for tree branches to come down with the wet heavy snow, like we had earlier this week. 

Waste Management does collect branch and brush bundles free of charge/stickers, as long as they adhere to the guidelines:

-Must be tied into bundles no longer than 5 feet

-Branches in the bundles must be less than 2 inches in diameter

-Bundles must weigh less than 45 pounds each
