City of Evanston issued the following announcement on Nov. 16.
The City of Evanston annual holiday light recycling program will be held from Saturday, December 1, 2018 through Thursday, January 31, 2019. This year's donations will be recycled in conjunction with the Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County (SWANCC) and Elgin Recycling.
All holiday string lighting and extension cords are accepted through this free program. Garlands, live greens, and wreaths will not be accepted.
Lights can be dropped off at the following Evanston locations:
Levy Senior Center, 300 Dodge Ave.
Monday through Friday: 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Evanston Ecology Center, 2024 McCormick Blvd.
Monday through Friday: 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Saturday: 8 a.m. to noon
Evanston Public Library, 1703 Orrington Ave.
Monday through Thursday: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Friday and Saturday: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Sunday: Noon to 6 p.m.
