Republican Jillian Bernas told supporters via a Facebook post that their enthusiasm had energized her campaign and kept her focused on a hard-fought election she lost to incumbent Rep. Michelle Mussman (D-Schaumburg).

“I would like to share heartfelt thanks with all of my campaign volunteers and supporters,” Bernas said. “Your dedication to reforming Illinois humbled me and helped me find strength to keep fighting.”

Mussman retained her seat with 58 percent of the vote, or 20,000 votes, versus Bernas' 42 percent, or 15,000 votes.

Rep. Michelle Mussman (D-Schaumburg) won re-election.

Bernas ran on a platform of tax reform, term limits and selecting new House leadership, according to her website.

“I was proud of our campaign and am sorry that we came up short yesterday,” Bernas added on Facebook. “Running for office is a team effort and I could not have asked for a better team. We still believe Illinois is worth fighting for and pray that much needed reforms are made.”
