VILLAGE OF BUFFALO GROVE: Turn Back Clocks on Sunday Nov 4, check batteries smoke alarms and CO2 detectors

Time 1000x667

Village of Buffalo Grove issued the following announcement on Oct. 30.

The Buffalo Grove Fire Department is reminding residents to, "Change Your Clock - Change Your Battery" on Daylight Saving Time, which is Sunday, November 4, 2018.

As Buffalo Grove residents turn their clocks back (by 2:00 a.m.) Sunday to standard time, they are encouraged to check batteries in smoke alarms and carbon monoxide (CO2) detectors at the same time.

In addition to checking these batteries - and changing them if necessary – residents are also advised to remember to practice good housekeeping, by keeping matches, lighters, and other flammable materials away from the reach of children, and to plan and practice a home escape plan in the case of a fire.

"When a fire occurs, every second counts. Working smoke detectors and CO2 alarms can provide the early warning needed for a family to escape a dangerous situation, safely,” said Buffalo Grove Fire Chief Mike Baker. “To do their job effectively, these devices need to be checked monthly and the batteries changed yearly. Checking batteries when turning back your clocks provides an easy reminder to ensure these life-saving devices work when they are needed."

For more information about fire safety and how to develop a home escape plan, contact the Buffalo Grove Fire Department’s Public Education Department at 847-777-6110 or visit your nearest fire station.

"Change Your Clock - Change Your Battery" is a national home fire safety campaign sponsored by the Buffalo Grove Fire Department and the International Association of Fire Chiefs.
