From2016eventwithpermission1280x640

Township High School District 214 recently issued the following announcement.

John Hersey High School will begin collecting food items on Monday, November 5 as part of its annual food drive to help those in need.

The food drive is one of Hersey's biggest philanthropic undertakings, and thanks to the local community, the school has collected record amounts of food during the past few years to benefit those experiencing difficult times.

Beginning November 5, Hersey students will canvass area neighborhoods to place bags donated from Jewel on doorsteps with instructions on how to participate. On Tuesday, November 13, Hersey students will return to the neighborhoods to pick up donated items in the Jewel bags.

Students will box and label the donations before loading everything onto trucks provided by U-Haul on Friday, November 16 and deliver the food to local food pantries.

The school is also setting up an online system for those who would like to donate money to the drive. These funds will go toward purchasing gift certificates that are put into family food boxes, allowing families to purchase perishable items. To donate money, click here.

Hersey is also seeking boxes that are close to 16" x 13" x 13" or of a similar size. If you have boxes to donate, please contact Assistant Principal John Novak at john.novak@d214.org or 847-718-4818.
