NORTHBROOK PARK DISTRICT: Residents invited to learn about new Activity Center

Park 06

Northbrook Park District issued the following announcement on Oct. 25.

A new Activity Center at Northbrook Park District’s Techny Prairie Park and Fields is one step closer to becoming reality.

A Drop-In Open House is set for 4:30-7pm, Nov. 5 at the Leisure Center, 3323 Walters Ave., where residents can view design concepts, learn about new fitness and programming opportunities and discuss the project with the design team and District staff.

The Activity Center is part of the 2018-2022: New Places to Play Initiative, which is based on resident input and aligns with the District’s 10-year Comprehensive Master Plan.

Designed by Darien-based Wight & Company, the Activity Center will feature space for fitness and wellness—including an indoor walking track.

The facility also will include senior programs, active adult programs, open gyms and active programming for all ages. These amenities were among the Top 5 Priorities for Investment for Programs identified in the Comprehensive Master Plan Community Survey.

“We’re thrilled to continue our mission of enhancing the community by offering the facilities and services our residents have told us they want,” said Northbrook Park District Executive Director Molly Hamer. “At the Activity Center we will offer the latest fitness and wellness opportunities and provide new spaces where the public can stay active, have fun and connect with others.”

The Activity Center will be located on a six-acre parcel the District purchased in 2011. Construction is slated to begin in August 2019.
