Self-described independent Republican Barrett Davie recently snared the support of former two-time U.S. Rep. Bob Dold.

“Washington is broken and Springfield feels even worse,” Dold, who served in the 10th Congressional District, says in a video posted to Facebook. “We need thoughtful, independent leadership, fiscal conservatives, social moderates that are actually willing to reach across the aisle and actually solve problems. Barrett Davie is that guy. That’s why I’m endorsing him for the Illinois State Senate.”

Davie, who is challenging Democratic incumbent Sen. Julie Morrison (D-Deerfield), has based much of his campaign on a platform of a balanced state budget and property tax, pension and education reforms.

A message that is starting to resonate with voters, he said.

“Our campaign is picking up serious momentum moving into August,” Davie said. “I've been meeting with people all over the District.”

The 29th district includes portions of the north suburbs of Chicago in Lake and Cook counties.
