Retired New Trier TWP HSD 203 employee Lynn Chesnel saved $6,802 toward her pension over 5 years working for public schools, Illinois Teachers' Retirement Fund (TRS) records show.
Over 29 years of retirement, Chesnel would collect as much as $535,000, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes North Cook News.
Chesnel, 66, who currently lives in Stratford, CT earned $23,941 in her final year at New Trier TWP HSD 203.
The projection assumes Chesnel will receive 45.4 percent of that total - $10,866 - in her first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.
After three years of retirement, Chesnel will have already received $33,585 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of her contributions to the state teachers' pension fund.
ISBE reported that 93.5 percent of New Trier TWP HSD 203 graduates were deemed "college ready" last year.
