Evanston Township High School District 202 issued the following announcement on Sept. 28.
Three scholar athletes from Evanston Township High School were honored by the Kiwanis Club of Evanston. ETHS seniors Michael Axelrood, Annie Hedges, and Clara Lynk each received the Ted Van Zelst Award in September 2018.
Michael Axelrood completed his fourth year on the football team and credits his participation with personal and leadership growth. Annie Hedges is a doubles tennis player at ETHS, making it to state last year and finishing in ETHS’s first top ten at the state meet. She also finds time for community service and participation with Best Buddies, an organization that works with disabled students at Park School. Clara Lynk, an athlete in golf and badminton, looks forward to a future in engineering.
The Kiwanis Club has recognized hundreds of ETHS students in the areas of athletics, community service, and fine arts. Student honorees continue to inspire Kiwanis Club members through their good works, academic accomplishments, and community interest. The Ted Van Zelst award was named for a prominent Evanston businessman, entrepreneur and humanitarian.
