CITY OF EVANSTON: City Creates Age-Friendly Business Initiative

City of Evanston issued the following announcement on Oct. 3.

The City of Evanston invites all local businesses to participate in a new Age-Friendly Business Initiative. Business owners who join the Age-Friendly movement will discover steps they can take to make Evanston a great place to grow up and grow old. For instance, owners may not realize that wider aisles or automatic doors not only help older adults with wheelchairs or walkers, but are also great for parents with young children in strollers.

Businesses can learn more about the Age-Friendly movement and download the Age-Friendly Business Resource Guide at www.cityofevanston.org/agefriendlybusiness. After reviewing the guide, businesses can fill out the Age-Friendly Business Checklist, which must be completed by October 31, 2018, to be considered for Age-Friendly status. The next step is to schedule a collaborative consultation with an Age-Friendly Evanston representative to learn more about the resources available to make businesses more accessible to all customers, and particularly older adults.

Businesses that achieve Age-Friendly status will receive a decal to display or permission to use the Age-Friendly logo on their web site, and will receive free advertising on the City's website as well as promotion of their age-friendly status with age-friendly community partners and organizations. Those businesses will also have the opportunity to host special events in conjunction with the City.

For more information, please call/text 847-448-4311. For convenience, you may dial 3-1-1 while in Evanston.
