Republican House candidate Marilyn Smolenski is accusing Rep. Marty Moylan (D-Des Plains) of making light of her history as a domestic abuse survivor in a new campaign ad.
“Marty Moylan intentionally mocked up a photo to make it appear explicit for the sole purpose of degrading and dehumanizing me and women everywhere,” said Smolenski, who is running against Moylan in the 55th District in November’s general election. “As a domestic violence survivor, I have made it my life’s mission to teach women how to prepare and defend themselves from abusive attacks.”
Smolenski vows not to be moved by Moylan’s tactics.

“I will not be intimidated by Rep. Moylan's disgusting attempt to exploit and disgrace me,” she said in a prepared statement. “His actions are an insult to me, the elected office he holds, and all women.”
The photo in question should be immediately removed, Smolenski said.
"Marty should be ashamed of himself and embarrassed by his actions," said Smolenski, arguing that Moylan should now “apologize to women everywhere for his actions.”
The 55th District includes parts of Chicago, Des Plaines, Park Ridge and Rolling Meadows.
