CITY OF EVANSTON: Enjoy Streets Alive on September 9

Fest

City of Evanston issued the following announcement on Aug. 29.

Streets Alive!, featuring the Green Living Festival, will take place on Main Street in Evanston on Sunday, September 9 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., rain or shine. The free annual "open streets" event will bring together residents of Evanston and surrounding communities to walk, bike, play and enjoy a car-free mile of Main Street between Chicago Avenue and Robert Crown Park (at Florence Avenue).

Free, fun activities for all ages will be featured, including live music, kids' crafts, games, chalk art and painting, a bicycle safety course, sports demonstrations and activities, delicious food and refreshments from street vendors, and more.

The event includes four of the City’s nine aldermanic wards (2nd, 3rd, 4th and 9th) and spans two parks, a lively business district and a major transit hub.

The popular Evanston Green Living Festival will again be located on Main Street between Ridge and Asbury Avenues. This annual environmental fest features organizations presenting products, services, and ideas that encourage and empower attendees to lead more sustainable lives.

The festival is part of the national "livability cities" movement. In that vision, streets aren't just for traveling—but for lingering, shopping, meeting friends or strolling. In keeping with that focus, visitors are encouraged to walk, bike, scooter, skate or take public transportation to Main Street. The CTA's Purple Line and Metra both have stops on Main Street at Chicago Avenue.

Streets Alive! is organized by the Evanston Environmental Association, Citizens' Greener Evanston, and the City of Evanston. NorthShore University HealthSystem is the Presenting Sponsor. Other major sponsors include First Bank & Trust together with Byline Bank, ComEd, the Evanston Bicycle Club, Evanston RoundTable, Collective Resource, Natural Awakenings Chicago, and The Mike Nowak Show.
