Niles Elementary School District 71 students suspended 10 times in a single school year

Niles Elementary School District 71 reported 10 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 10 students during the year. That equates to 1.7 percent of the 599 students enrolled.

Of the 10 in-school suspensions, all were given to boys, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes eight incidents. There were two incidents of violence without physical injury. For eight incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.
