City of Evanston issued the following announcement on Aug. 6.
Over the next two years, the City of Evanston will be constructing a new Robert Crown Community Center, Ice Complex and Library at Robert Crown Park, located at the intersection of Main Street and Dodge Avenue. The project will include a new 130,000-square-foot building, including two NHL-sized ice rinks, a 6,000-square-foot branch library, gymnasium, preschool, and multipurpose rooms, as well as three artificial turf athletic fields and a surface parking lot.
The project will be constructed in three phases. Phase 1, August 2018 through November 2019, will include construction of the new building and a portion of the new parking lot. Phase 2, November 2019 through March 2020, will include demolition of the existing Robert Crown Center and completion of the new parking lot. Phase 3, March 2020 through June 2020, will include construction of the new artificial turf athletic fields.
The existing Robert Crown Center will remain open to the public until the new Center is operational. A map of the construction area can be seen below.
Construction activities may create some inconveniences for abutting businesses and residents, but the City will attempt to minimize these issues. Limited parking restrictions on surrounding roadways may be required during portions of the project to accommodate utility work, but these are expected to be short in duration and will be signed with temporary “No Parking” signs posted 48 hours in advance.

The project’s general contractor is Bulley and Andrews, 1755 W. Armitage Ave., Chicago.
