Republican state House candidate Marilyn Smolenski argues that Rep. Marty Moylan (D-Des Plaines) has cost Illinois taxpayers enough.
“What would you do with an extra $700 dollars [sic],” Smolenski, set to challenge Moylan in the 55th District in November’s general election, recently posted on Facebook. “That's how much extra the median family was forced to pay because of last year’s tax hike. Marty Moylan and (House Speaker) Mike Madigan have no problem spending your money, but what are you getting for it?”
On the flip side, Smolenski reasons the cost for government’s mismanagement can be steep.

“Who do you know who has fled Illinois,” she added in another Facebook post. “Rising property taxes and the looming budget crisis are chasing families out of the state. This isn't going to be a last minute fix. Responsible governing needs to start now.”
A first-time candidate for public office, Smolenski has blasted Moylan throughout the campaign as being out of touch with his constituents.
The 55th District includes parts of Des Plaines, Park Ridge and Elk Grove Village.
