Joan McCarthy Lasonde is on a mission and is determined not to let anyone stop her.

The Republican candidate for Illinois state Senate District 9 and longtime foster parent recently took to Facebook to share a few of her goals.

“Join us in our mission to find a #ForeverFamily for every DCFS foster child,” Lasonde posted. “Vote Nov 6. #NoMoreMadigan.”

Rep. Laura Fine is running against Joan McCarthy Lasonde for Illinois Senate District 9.

Lasonde is running against state Rep. Laura Fine (D-Glenview) in November’s general election. Fine currently represents District 17 in the Illinois House of Representatives.

Beyond the removal of longtime House Speaker Mike Madigan (D-Chicago), Lasonde has based much of her campaign platform on economic issues like jobs and tax reform. She is opposed to last year’s record-setting 32 percent permanent income tax hike and has made its rollback her first priority.

"Currently, somebody flees Illinois every five minutes," Lasonde told Chicago City Wire. "We used to be the fifth-largest state for population. Illinois recently dropped to No. 6 just behind Pennsylvania. Our tax base is fleeing."

District 9 includes Evanston, Wilmette, Kenilworth, Winnetka, Northfield and Golf. The district also includes portions of Glencoe, Northbrook, Glenview and Skokie.
