Hoffman Estates Park District recently issued the following announcement.

HE Parks is proud to welcome 2018 Olympic team bronze medalists, two-time U.S. National Pairs Champions (2015 and 2018), and 5-time World Championship competitors Alexa Scimeca-Knierim and Chris Knierim and their coach Aljona Savchenko to the Triphahn Center Ice Arena this summer. The husband and wife team will be training at the ice arena before they depart for Europe in late August. Alexa Knierim, originally from Addison, overcame a serious gastrointestinal illness prior to the Pyeongchang Olympics and finished with a bronze medal with her husband Chris.

“It’s thrilling to have such talented skaters grace our ice,” said HE Parks Executive Director Craig Talsma. “We hope they have successful training sessions here, we’re happy to have them.”

While they are training at the Triphahn Center, they welcome fans and spectators to view their practices in the observation deck at the Triphahn Center. Photographs are welcome but the pair is asking that no video be recorded.

HE Parks offers figure skating lessons year-round starting at age 3 through the United Skates’ Figure Skating’s Learn to Skate curriculum. Class fees include skate rental if needed, and a membership in U.S. Learn to Skate.

The park district will offer free ice skating at the Triphahn Center this summer on July 22 and August 19 from 3-4:30 p.m. Admission and skate rental will be free of charge.

For more information about figure skating lessons or free skating sessions please visit heparks.org or contact the park district at 847-885-7500.
