Wheeling Township Republicans are asking for information to be turned into local police concerning vandalism to the front of the party's headquarters in Arlington Heights over the Fourth of July.

"During the night of July 3rd, 2018, someone or a group of people vandalized the ROWT HQ, by throwing a brick thru the glass door," Republicans of Wheeling Township said in a post on the party's Facebook Page, shortly after the vandalism was reported. "If you have any information, please contact AH [Arlington Heights] Police department."

Local police reportedly are treating the case as a "bias" crime.

A large landscaping brick reportedly was thrown through the glass front door of the Republicans of Wheeling Township headquarters office on East Rand Road in Arlington Heights, according to the incident report filed by the Arlington Heights Police Department. The vandalism occurred sometime between 5 p.m. Tuesday, July 3, and 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 4, and was reported to police by Wheeling Township Republican Committeeman Kathy Penner, according to the report.

"The large brick shattered the front door and damaged a desk near the front door," the police report said.

A damage estimate was not included in the report.

"There are also no surveillance cameras in the area," the police report said. "Nothing was missing from the business. Nothing of evidentiary value was found."

An image of the damage to the door is visible in a photo provided to North Cook News and showed a long, rectangular hole in the top and bottom of the door with shards of glass visible on the floor inside and on the sidewalk outside.

The crime is listed as "other bias incident" under the "hate bias" portion of the police report. No arrests have been reported and the incident report's status is listed as "administratively closed".

Republicans of Wheeling Township opened their headquarters on Rand Road in Arlington Heights on June 5, 2004, according to information on the landing page of the party's website.

Later in the day Tuesday, Republicans of Wheeling Township participated in the annual Arlington Heights Frontier Days parade.
