GLENVIEW COMMUNITY CONSOLIDATED SCHOOL DISTRICT 34: District Provides Update on New Standards-Based Report Card

Unk

Glenview Community Consolidated School District 34 recently issued the following announcement.

Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum, Assessment and Instruction Beth Tsoumas shared with the Board of Education an update on the new standards-based report card that will be implemented beginning next school year.

As Tsoumas explained, standards-based reporting is directly linked to grade level standards, providing students and parents with feedback regarding the student’s performance level for each standard listed on the report card.

One of the biggest changes with this new system is that standards-based reporting provides parents with information about their child’s growth on specific standards over time, rather than the traditional approach of assigning a letter grade for an overall subject that incorporates the learning of many standards.

"To achieve a more accurate reporting of student progress, a standard-based report card separates academic performance from work habits and personal characteristics. While traditional report card grades may include such factors as behavior, work ethic, and habits of mind, standards-based reporting separates these factors on the report card," Tsoumas said. "Additionally, standards-based report cards provide improved opportunities for parents, students and teachers to discuss specific grade level standards, celebrate growth areas, identify goal areas, and determine next steps."

The district has spent a majority of the 2017-18 school researching and thoughtfully implementing the new report card. Parents can expect to receive additional information over the summer leading into this change. However, if you are interested in learning more, please click here to view the presentation.
