Elk Grove TWP FD responds to 24 fires in 2017

Elk Grove Township Fire Department responded to 84 calls in 2017 - 20.8 percent less than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Elk Grove included 24 fires - 17 structure fires, five vehicle fires and two other fires. The fire department also responded to one call for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $6,220 in fire loss - or about $259 per fire.

The department also received 59 false calls, including two malicious calls and 57 other false calls.

The Elk Grove Township Fire Department had an annual budget of $1,923,272 in 2016.

The Elk Grove Village Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 89 active employees and 92 retired or inactive employees, was $5,371,097 in debt as of April 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $223,796 for every fire in 2016.
