Streamwood FD responds to 82 fires in 2017

Streamwood Fire Department responded to 415 calls in 2017 - 6.5 percent less than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Streamwood included 82 fires - 58 structure fires, eight vehicle fires and 16 other fires. The fire department also responded to 12 calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $632,448 in fire loss - or about $7,713 per fire.

The department also received 321 false calls, including 16 malicious calls and 305 other false calls.

The calls resulted in one civilian fire-related injury. Additionally, four fire service member were injured in non fire-related incidents.

The Streamwood Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 50 active employees and 38 retired or inactive employees, was $860,500 positive as of December 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $9,456 for every fire in 2016.
