Schaumburg FD responds to 129 fires in 2017

Schaumburg Fire Department responded to 1363 calls in 2017 - same as the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Schaumburg included 129 fires - 51 structure fires, 16 vehicle fires and 62 other fires. The fire department also responded to two calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $2,236,671 in fire loss - or about $17,339 per fire.

The department also received 1232 false calls, including 26 malicious calls and 1206 other false calls.

The Schaumburg Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 122 active employees and 122 retired or inactive employees, was $9,678,188 in debt as of April 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $70,644 for every fire in 2016.
