Morton Grove FD responds to 42 fires in 2017

Morton Grove Fire Department responded to 289 calls in 2017 - 10.5 percent less than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Morton Grove included 42 fires - 23 structure fires, one vehicle fire and 18 other fires. The fire department also responded to four calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $88,024 in fire loss - or about $2,096 per fire.

The department also received 243 false calls, including 12 malicious calls and 231 other false calls.

The calls resulted in one civilian fire-related injury. Additionally, four fire service member were injured in non fire-related incidents.

The Morton Grove Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 40 active employees and 52 retired or inactive employees, was $575,838 in debt as of December 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $10,865 for every fire in 2016.
