Hoffman Estates FD responds to 104 fires in 2017

Hoffman Estates Fire Department responded to 783 calls in 2017 - 12.3 percent less than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Hoffman Estates included 104 fires - 47 structure fires, 24 vehicle fires and 33 other fires. The fire department also responded to 12 calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $1,194,875 in fire loss - or about $11,489 per fire.

The department also received 667 false calls, including 28 malicious calls and 639 other false calls.

The calls resulted in three civilian fire-related injuries. Additionally, 12 fire service member were injured in non fire-related incidents.

The Hoffman Estates Fire Department had an annual budget of $64,160 in 2016.

The Hoffman Estates Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 93 active employees and 70 retired or inactive employees, was $38,137 positive as of December 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $363 for every fire in 2016.
