Glenview FD responds to 112 fires in 2017

Glenview Fire Department responded to 1349 calls in 2017 - 4.2 percent less than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Glenview included 112 fires - 51 structure fires, eight vehicle fires and 53 other fires. The fire department also responded to one call for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $646,020 in fire loss - or about $5,768 per fire.

The department also received 1236 false calls, including 34 malicious calls and 1202 other false calls.

The calls resulted in one civilian fire-related injury. Additionally, one fire service member was injured in non fire-related incidents.

The Glenview Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 79 active employees and 90 retired or inactive employees, was $720,943 in debt as of December 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $6,866 for every fire in 2016.
