Buffalo Grove FD responds to 86 fires in 2017

Buffalo Grove Fire Department responded to 575 calls in 2017 - 5 percent less than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Buffalo Grove included 86 fires - 45 structure fires, seven vehicle fires and 34 other fires. The fire department also responded to five calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $1,700,637 in fire loss - or about $19,775 per fire.

The department also received 484 false calls, including six malicious calls and 478 other false calls.

The calls resulted in five civilian fire-related injuries. Additionally, four fire service members were injured in fire-related incidents and two were injured in non fire-related incidents.

The Buffalo Grove Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 55 active employees and 37 retired or inactive employees, was $1,331,651 positive as of December 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $17,995 for every fire in 2016.
