VILLAGE OF GLENVIEW: Battery recycling halted temporarily

Batteries 1000x667

Village of Glenview issued the following announcement on June 13.

The Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County was notified by its vendor, Interstate Batteries of North Chicago, that it will no longer pick up or process the batteries collected by SWANCC-member communities, including Glenview.

As a result, and until either the current vendor or another vendor can be contracted for the collections, the Village of Glenview is forced to discontinue collecting batteries -- both alkaline and rechargeable -- from residents at this time.

Alkaline batteries do not contain toxic materials and may be disposed of safely in the garbage. Rechargeable batteries can be taken to various retail locations; see this list from SWANCC.

Residents can also take batteries -- both alkaline and rechargeable -- to the Northfield Township Road District garage for recycling from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays at 1928 Lehigh Avenue.
