Report: Wheeling spent $16,792 per student in 2016-17

Spending per pupil at Wheeling Community Consolidated School District 21 is up 11 percent from five years ago, according to a North Cook News analysis of district finances.

The Illinois State Board of Education 2016-17 report card shows the Cook County school district spent $15,167 per pupil in 2012-13. It spent $16,792 in 2016-17.

The district saw its enrollment fall over the same period, from 6968 to 6693.

Wheeling's spending in 2016-17 was 29 percent higher than the state average of $12,973.
