CITY OF EVANSTON: EEA Reinvents Green Ball As "Nature's Night Out" to be held May 18

Party(1000)

City of Evanston issued the following announcement on May 3.

In a first for Evanston, the community's premier environmentally-themed party will feature an exclusive, after-hours look at the Evanston Ecology Center, where partygoers can enjoy music, raffle prizes, and the best in local food and craft beer offerings.

Nature's Night Out (formerly the Green Ball) has a new name and location, but the cause is the same: to support the Evanston Ecology Center. Presented by the Evanston Environmental Association (EEA) and the City of Evanston, Nature's Night Out takes place from 7 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., Friday, May 18, at the Evanston Ecology Center, 2024 McCormick Blvd. To purchase tickets, visit evanstonenvironment.org/party.

"If you live in Evanston, this is a perfect opportunity to support the Ecology Center and have a lot of fun," EEA President Dick Peach said. "Your support makes a difference in peoples' lives. That's why we're holding this bash at the Ecology Center—so people can see how their support has contributed to making a beautiful Evanston resource for anyone interested in protecting the planet."

This fun and festive celebration of Evanston's green community features:

  • Great food: Free food and drink from the best local restaurants, caterers and breweries, including Hecky's Barbecue, Koi, Peckish Pig, Temperance Beer Co and many more.
  • Great music: A DJ will cater to partygoers' musical tastes and take requests from the dance floor.
  • Great prizes: Partygoers can win excellent raffle prizes, including a kayak tour and gift certificate from Uncle Dan's, a free adult bicycle from Everyday Cycles & Motion, $100 worth of gardening tools/garden vegetables from Russo Power Equipment and Nature's Perspective, a free kids birthday party at the Ecology Center, an Artisanal Pizza Party from Central Pizza Pie, and a package to start your own bee hive.
  • Great bee hive tours. Nature's Night Out guests can also buy tickets to don a bee-keeper's suit for tours of the Ecology Center bee hives. The two apiary tours are offered just before the party at 5:30 p.m. on May 18, and then at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, June 10. Get more information at evanstonenvironment.org/party.
Proceeds support the Evanston Ecology Center. The area's top environmental resource provides plant and animal classes, snowshoe rentals, popular eco-summer camps, and fun events such as bird-watching, canoe trips and an eco-Halloween party. Its popular critter-viewing area includes Piff the Prairie Dog, Bernie the African Tortoise, and Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches.

Tickets are $60 for EEA members and $65 for non-members.  People 35 and under or 75 and older can buy a discounted ticket ($30 for members, $35 for non-members).  "Friend of the Ecology Center" tickets are also available for $100, and people who buy at least four tickets get a fifth one free. Admission includes food, beer and entertainment. Wine is $5 per cup. Please purchase tickets at evanstonenvironment.org/party.

Event Sponsors include: Archer-Patterson Family Foundation, Citizens' Greener Evanston, Collective Resource, ComEd, Evanston RoundTable, Green Edens Horticultural Services, Hagerty Consulting, Natural Awakenings Chicago, Nature's Perspective, and The Mike Nowak Show.

The Evanston Environmental Association (EEA), started in 1976, is a nonprofit dedicated to supporting the programs of the Evanston Ecology Center and promoting environmental awareness to the surrounding community.
