In the wake of harassment allegations against Sen. Al Franken (D-MN), Republican Jeremy Wynes, a candidate for Illinois' 10th District, is asking his opponent, Rep. Brad Schneider, to return a $5,000 check that Schneider received from Franken's political action committee.
Franken's PAC, Midwest Values, sent Schneider the amount on Sept. 30, 2016, according to a press release from Wynes.
Following allegations that Franken sexually harassed a woman on a comedy tour in 2006, some officials and others are reevaluating their relationships with the comedian-turned-lawmaker.
Wynes believes that his opponent should give the check back or give the money away.
“Senator Franken’s actions are the opposite of our Midwestern values, and Brad Schneider should immediately give away the money he took from Al Franken,” Wynes said in a press statement. “This type of behavior is absolutely wrong and I hope Brad Schneider joins me in condemning it.”
Before getting into state politics, Wynes was a director in the Chicago office of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), and in 2014, he helped to found a Chicago office for the Republican Jewish Coalition (RJC).
