A renovation project at Triton College earned an award of excellence at the recent AIA Northeast Illinois Design Awards 2017, the Illinois Capital Development Board (CDB) reported.
The project involved turning an older industrial-arts building into a modern facility for training and teaching in health care. The renovation will allow Triton, a two-year college in River Grove with an enrollment of 10,000 students, to bring its health fields under one roof, as well as give the college the capacity to teach advances in the industry. The upgrades included making the classrooms similar to places where students will be employed in the future.
The building's architecture and interior design were handled by a partnership of the Capital Development Board and FGM Architects Inc., with general contracting by the George Sollitt Construction Co. The construction was finished in 2015.
“The health-careers building at Triton College is innovative and state-of-the-art,” CDB Senior Project Manager Bruce Locke said in the news release. “The renovations were needed to ensure that Triton students have the resources to receive a high quality education and prepare for a career in the booming health-care field.”
