Winnetka FD responds to 22 fires in 2016

Winnetka Fire Department responded to 507 calls in 2016, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System obtained by the North Cook News.

The calls in Winnetka included 22 fires - 19 structure fires and three other fires.

In all, the department saw $673,050 in fire loss - or about $30,593 per fire.

The department also received 485 false calls, including two malicious calls and 483 other false calls.

One fire service member was injured in fire-related incidents.

The Winnetka Firefighters' Pension Fund, which has 25 active employees and 32 retired or inactive employees, was $1,767,806 in debt as of December 2015, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $80,355 for every fire in 2016.
