Schaumburg FD responds to 140 fires in 2016

Schaumburg Fire Department responded to 165 calls in 2016, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System obtained by the North Cook News.

The calls in Schaumburg included 140 fires - 56 structure fires, 31 vehicle fires and 50 other fires. The fire department also responded to three calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $955,915 in fire loss - or about $6,828 per fire.

The department also received one false call, including 24 malicious calls and 1 other false calls.

The calls resulted in two civilian fire-related injuries. Additionally, one fire service member was injured in fire-related incidents.

The Schaumburg Firefighters' Pension Fund, which has 122 active employees and 121 retired or inactive employees, was $9,678,188 in debt as of April 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $69,130 for every fire in 2016.
