Prospect Heights FPD responds to 45 fires in 2016

Prospect Heights Fire Protection District responded to 364 calls in 2016, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System obtained by the North Cook News.

The calls in Prospect Heights included 45 fires - 25 structure fires, six vehicle fires and 11 other fires. The fire department also responded to three calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $411,205 in fire loss - or about $9,138 per fire.

The department also received 319 false calls, including seven malicious calls and 312 other false calls.

One fire service member was injured in fire-related incidents and one was injured in non fire-related incidents.

The Prospect Heights FPD Firefighters' Pension Fund, which has 15 active employees and two retired or inactive employees, was $69,848 positive as of April 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $1,552 for every fire in 2016.
