Maine South High School will have another official team tearing up its new turf next spring.
The Maine Township School Board recently approved boys and girls lacrosse teams at the school. Although lacrosse has been played at Maine South for several years at the club level, this will be the first time the school takes over. Before now, it was run by parents, who had to get their kids to and from games with other schools without district help.
While the girls team will cost the school approximately $26,000, the boys team is expected to almost be double the price because of extras like shoulder pads and helmets. Some equipment remains from the club team as well.
The lacrosse teams will be part of the Illinois High School Association, which will eventually ensure regional and state tournaments.
