Winnetka Park District Committee of the Whole met June 8.

Here is the minutes as provided by the committee:

President Ian Larkin called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. Commissioners present: Mickey Archambault, Teresa Claybrook, Warren James, Ian Larkin, Eric Lussen, John Thomas. Commissioner absent: John Petersen. Staff present: John Muno, Executive Director; Christine Berman, Superintendent of Finance; John Shea, Superintendent of Recreation; Costa Kutulas, Superintendent of Parks; Mary Cherveny, Administrative Services Manager and Parks Staff member Jamie Martin.

Unfinished Business

Dwyer Park update 

Superintendent of Parks, Costa Kutulas, provided the Committee of the Whole with an update on the Dwyer Park construction and provided a display board of visuals.

The Children's stage for the Winnetka Musical Festival will be relocated to the south end of the Post Office parking lot. As good neighbors, the parks department will set up a couple of picnic tables in the area for the festival.

Phase II of the project will include a conversation with the Garden Guild to set plans for the butterfly garden.

Dwyer Park will still be under construction and fenced off during the Fourth of July festivities. At the request of Commissioner Archambault, staff will get a "coming soon' banner up along the fence line prior to July 4th.

Golf Service Center 

Superintendent of Parks, Costa Kutulas moved his report over to the Golf Service Center project. This project is nearly completion. Currently we have temporary occupancy and expectfull occupancy shortly after completion of the few items left on the punch list. The service center will also be updated from a 4-Zone fire alarm system to an addressable system.

Commissioner Claybrook asked about golf conditions email sent out by Matt Johnson. This was a public relations effort to the golfers. He received positive feedback from many golfers. A Golf Superintendent column has also been added to the monthly WGC e-newsletter.

Tennis Center Outdoor Courts 

Outdoor courts are completed. Landscaping of the area will be our next step and completed prior to the June 25 ribbon cutting.

Landscape crew efforts have been at Crow Island Woods with the recent planting of 41 trees, but will re-focus efforts around the tennis courts.

New Business

Board Governance Training - Date & Topics 

Through board consensus, Attorney Adams will attend our September 14 committee meeting to conduct board governance training. Staff will reach out to board about topics of interest to be covered.

Additional Comments

Commissioner Thomas asked that we invite the Caucus Parks Committee to our July 13 meeting.

President Larkin asked the Board to talk up the Centennial Golf Outing and Celebration Party.

Chain link fence at Lloyd Park will be coming down at the end of June.

Lakefront update from Superintendent Shea included credit cards now being taken at the beaches and paddleboard rentals are back. Father's Day Brunch will be at Elder Lane Beach and paddleboard will be available for guests to try out.

Board recognized the clubhouse bar improvements including the efforts of Park Staff member Jamie Martin along with the rest of the park staff.
