Oakton hoopster named NJCAA District 4 Men's Basketball Player of the Week

Oakton Community College (OCC) basketball player Ryan Matthew was named the District 4 Men's Basketball Player of the Week on Wednesday, Oakton said in a statement.

The honor was announced in the latest report from the Region IV National Junior College Athletic Association.

Matthew, a sophomore point guard from Park Ridge, averaged 21.5 points – shooting 54 percent on field-goal attempts and 81 percent on free-throw attempts – with 3.5 rebounds and four assists in wins over Truman College on Nov. 1 at home and at the College of DuPage (CoD) on Nov. 3. He had 26 points and five assists in the Truman game and 17 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals against CoD, according to njcaa.org.

Matthew is coming off a freshman season in which he averaged 11.4 points, 4.5 assists and 3.7 rebounds per game.
