Bernas stays focused on balanced budget

Budget 03

Budget is still the topic of the day for Jillian Rose Bernas, Republican candidate for State House District 56, Schaumburg.

As a fiscally conservative candidate, she is focused on reducing spending and producing a balanced budget.

"I am going to Springfield to represent you," Bernas said. "That means prioritizing spending on core government services like education and roads, rethinking government to more efficiently provide services and reforming programs to improve quality while decreasing costs. Our state is in a very precarious position given its massive state debt and crushing unfunded pension debt. This means our state is in a weak position to provide the programs and services needed by those that most need them."

She vowed to work for reforms to eliminate wasteful spending and political pet projects, support education and encourage businesses to grow. She pointed out a Pew Charitable Trust study that revealed that tax revenues are up 22.5 percent; yet despite the additional revenues, the state is not funding core services.

"I want to help and serve people today -- families that need access to Medicaid today; individuals with disabilities who need support today; children who need access to quality schools today," Bernas said.

The budget impasse has left Illinois without a full budget for more than a year. Bernas believes it is not too late to turn around the state's finances by implementing reforms to balance the budget.
