The Frontier League has named Schaumburg as its Organization of the Year, according to a news release on BoomersBaseball.com.
It's the second time the Boomers have received the honor, with the first award coming in 2013.
Going into the weekend of Sept. 2 – the final weekend of the league's regular season – Schaumburg had drawn 160,072 fans to its 45 home games, which is an average of 3,557 fans per game. Both attendance numbers topped the league. The team's average attendance was up about 500 fans over last season.
The team had led the league in attendance the previous two seasons going into 2016. Schaumburg's attendance before the weekend was about 2,000 fans fewer than all of last year.
According to frontier.bbstats.pointstreak.com, the Frontier League's statistics website, the Boomers ended the season with 172,996 in total attendance in 48 dates. The attendance for the final game of the season on Sunday, Sept. 4, was 4,049 as Schaumburg ended the 2016 campaign with a 41-55 record, which put the Boomers in last place by record in the league.
