Divvy Bike Share is now available in Evanston

Evanston welcomes the Divvy Bike Share program this week, which provides an alternative transportation option to members.

The regional bike share network allows members to pick up a bike from any station, take a short bike trip and return the bike to any of the 580 Chicago area stations.

“I’m excited to welcome the Divvy Bike Share program to Evanston,” Evanston Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl said. “Divvy provides community members and visitors access to an easy, healthy, affordable and environmentally friendly way to complete their last mile of travel or an option for quick trips around town.”

Evanston will host 100 Divvy bikes and 10 bike share stations. Annual membership is $99. Residents can select a $9.95 monthly payment plan with a one-year contract, as well. Included in the membership is an unlimited number of 30-minute bike trips. Longer trips incur additional usage fees. Information about memberships and bike station locations is available at www.DivvyBikes.com.

“The launch of Divvy in Evanston speaks to the number and variety of bike riders in Evanston,” Evanston Bicycle Club President Tom Witt said. “Divvy will work in tandem with other city programs and projects such as Pedal Bright, Bike the Ridge and the new Dodge Avenue Protected Bike Lane to encourage cycling both for recreation and for practical purposes, such as commuting. The Evanston Bicycle Club is proud to be a part of the diverse cycling community in Evanston and we look forward to continuing to support an environment that is safe, comfortable and convenient for all road users.”
