NWCDS awarded top spot as Emergency Fire Dispatch Accredited Center

Nwcds

The Northwest Central Dispatch System (NWCDS) is the first in Illinois to receive accreditation as an Accredited Center of Excellence from the International Academies of Emergency Dispatch (IAED).

The designation is the highest award for a 9-1-1 emergency dispatch center.

“They have to meet very specific call-handling standards in order to achieve these accreditations," NWCDS Executive Director John Ferraro said. "Without their performance, none of this is possible. They deserve an enormous amount of credit.”

NWCDS provides 11 municipalities with 9-1-1 services, including Mount Prospect and the surrounding communities. The intergovernmental, multi-jurisdictional dispatch center received the honor through the staff's experience, professionalism and hard work. To receive accreditation the dispatch center had to show compliance with the Fire Priority Dispatch System and Medical Priority Dispatch System. The center also followed the international standards of excellence.

“Mount Prospect is proud to be a member of the Northwest Central Dispatch System and congratulate them on being designated a Center of Excellence for emergency dispatch," Mayor Arlene A. Juracek said. "The Northwest suburbs, and Mount Prospect in particular, have been on the leading edge of forming regional alliances and providing excellence in the delivery of emergency services. Our residents and businesses continue to benefit from leading edge life safety services.”
