The March 14 meeting of the Arlington Heights Committee of the Whole featured departmental status reports.

The Arlington Heights Committee of the Whole met on March 14 in the Village Hall board room at 33 S. Arlington Heights Road.

The committee reviewed departmental reports from the Human Resources, Integrated Services, Legal and Police departments.

The Human Resources (HR) Department administers recruitment, testing, hiring, training and staff development. It maintains an employee handbook, which spells out the details of working for the village for employees. It also administers the employee benefits programs, including health insurance, vacations and sick leave. Personnel policies and procedures and collective bargaining with employee unions also fall under HR responsibilities. HR is currently working with the Fire and Police Commission to recruit and test for an eligibility list for the certified police officer position.

The village maintains a legal department, which provides legal advice to village staff; reviews contracts, agreements, ordinances and resolutions; handles foreclosures and overseas the Freedom of Information (FOIA) requests received by the various village departments. The village prosecutor prosecutes traffic, code and liquor-related violations.

The committee also heard reports from Integrated Services and the Police Department. At the next meeting of the committee, on March 16, the group heard reports from the Building, Engineering and Public Works departments.
