The village recently annexed the unincorporated portion of the Lynn Court townhomes development.
The Mount Prospect village board approved the annexation of the unincorporated areas of the Lynn Court townhomes development at its March 16 meeting.
The village mailed the notice of annexation by certified mail as well as personally delivering a notice to each of the affected taxpayers within the area. The village also published the notice in the Daily Herald on March 5, which was more than 10 days before the annexation ordinance was passed.
The 22 townhomes in the development, 3017-3031 Lynn Court, are completely bordered by the village. Illinois Municipal Code Section 7-1-13 gives the village the authority to annex properties that lie completely within the village borders and are less than 60 acres. The townhomes are mainly owner-occupied units, with a few rentals owned by one investor. The townhomes were built in the early 1960s. By annexing the unincorporated part of the development, the village will be able to provide local services to the residents.
The board passed the ordinance in a 6-0 vote. It took effect immediately upon its approval on March 16. To complete the process of annexation, the city clerk must send a certified copy of the ordinance by certified or registered mail to the Cook County Election Department/Commission within 30 days.
